29.12: NOVA GORICA > VIPAVA > MURSKA SOBOTA
Departure from your accommodation, or meet up in Nova Gorica and visit of the United Europe square of the two cities, the Slovene Nova Gorica and the Italian Gorizia, that was inaugurated by Romano Prodi (president of the European Commission) the 1. of May in 2004 for the occasion of the Slovene admittance to the European Union. Later on we proceed towards Solkan to admire the river Soca valley with its railroad bridge, originally built in the time of the Secession, between the 1900 and 1905, with an arch span of 85 meters (279 ft), it is the second-largest stone bridge in the world and the longest stone bridge among railroad bridges. The bridge was very important during the WWI. Lunch at the nearby restaurant, consisting of genuine dishes from times that once were, such as soup with beans and bacon, goulash with polenta, for main course various meat, potatoes and vegetables and to finish properly, two homemade desserts. After lunch we proceed on highway to Murska Sobota to check in an excellent 3*** hotel with thermal pools and saunas, dinner and overnight stay.

Buffet breakfast and departure from the hotel to visit Radenci with the thermal springs of Radenska mineral water, the one with the three red hearts on the label. Let’s take a glimpse of the very wholesome water, which is sold worldwide. Afterwards visit of Kapela with the church consecrated to St. Mari Magdalene, situated on top of the hill, which offers a spectacular view on the three neighboring States and on more than 40 church towers of the churches nearby. Visit of the pumpkin seed oil stork. The pumpkins had mutated in nature and have the seeds without peel, so the toasting for the oil extraction is possible. We do a nice tasting of the pumpkin oil and other delicacies made from pumpkin seeds. The owner produces a delicious chocolate with the addition of pumpkin seed oil and other tasteful ingredients like plum liqueur, fried onion, cinnamon, apples… delicious! Lunch with local specialties, in the most renowned agro tourism in the area. I’m sure many of you have never tasted the typical sweet of Prekmurje, the buckwheat-based “ajdov krapec” which is a true goodness! In the afternoon we visit Jeruzalem (Jerusalem) which takes its name from the Crusaders who marched toward the Holy Land and stood in the little church, which is named after a painting of the Madonna. The church offers an amazing view on the surrounding hills covered with vineyards. Return for dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.
31.12: MURSKA SOBOTA > BUKOVNISKO JEZERO (LAKE) > BOGOJINA > MURSKA SOBOTA
After breakfast visit of the “Bukovnisko jezero” lake, immersed in the frame of a towering oaks forest. Close to the lake lies the miraculous source of st.Vito, known for its healthy water, which heals the sight, hearing and skin. Walking amidst the energy points in the woods around the Lake, we get back to the bus to visit Bogojina – the church designed and built by the most famous Slovene architect, J. Plecnik. He put the majolica’s on the altar and the colored plates on the ceiling, all part of the local art. In this way he approached the ecclesiastic doctrine to the modest farmers that have always been tight to the land and the vines. Soon the church became a peregrine destination. Typical rich lunch with local specialties. The guests are given only home-made products, such as the tasty appetizer consisting of mixed salami and cheeses, special liver pate, ham lard with cracklings accompanied by home baked bread, then seasonal soup and broth with homemade pasta, abundant the main dish with local meat specialties and many garnishes … to end the meal properly, the typical dessert of Prekmurje: “gibanica” that is a succulent multi-layered sweet filled with poppy seeds, cottage cheese, walnuts and apples. Free time in the afternoon for walks, thermal baths and preparations for the New Year’s Eve dinner with live music, dancing and fun.

Happy new year! Breakfast and departure towards Ljubljana, the Slovene capital, to visit this beautiful city, with the Presern square, the three bridges, the Cathedral, the antique market … lunch near Postojna, where we are delighted with homemade appetizer with ham, cheese and pickled porcinis. It continues with a soup and a broth, then meat and side dishes, always home produced. We will have the possibility to buy their products. After lunch, transfer to your accommodation or to the airport. End of services.
